Fencer HSIEH Kaylin Sin Yan won the first medal for Hong Kong, China in the 3rd Summer Youth Olympic Games

8 October 2018, Buenos Aires: Hong Kong, China athlete clinched the first medal on the second competition day in the 3rd Summer Youth Olympic (YOG). Fencer Ms. HSIEH Kaylin Sin Yan won the silver medal of the Women’s Individual Épée today.

 

With 3 wins and 3 loses in the pool round in this morning, Kaylin entered into Table of 16 and beated ZEBOUDJ Yousra (ALG) by 15:9. In the quarterfinal match, Kaylin met the top player of Group B, VERMEULE Emily (USA). She coped with great pressure in the third period to win by 15:14. After defeating WASIAK Axelle (BEL) by 15:4, Kaylin was in a tight game against CHORNIY Kateryna (UKR) in the final. Kaylin was leading in the second period, however the component came back in the third period and finally she lost the game by 9:11. Kaylin got a silver medal in Women’s Individual Épée which is also the first Medal for Hong Kong, China in the 3rd YOG.

 

Hong Kong, China participated in 9 events in the 3rd YOG.  Our athletes will strive for their best in the events to be held tomorrow, including Aquatics – Swimming, Beach Handball, Equestrian, Fencing, Rowing, Table Tennis and Sailing – Windsurfing. Besides, Mr. Timothy T.T. FOK, GBS, JP, President of SF&OC was awarded the Olympic Order by the International Olympic Committee in recognition of his contribution in promoting sports development worldwide. The Olympic Order is the highest award of the Olympic Movement and is awarded for particularly distinguished contributions in sports.
