The 3rd Summer Youth Olympic Games Opening Ceremony

6 October 2018, Buenos Aires: The Hong Kong, China Delegation attended the 3rd Summer Youth Olympic Games Opening Ceremony held at the Obelisk, Av. 9 de Julio in Buenos Aires, Argentina today.

 

Unlike the past Youth Olympic Games, athletes and officials were firstly entered the venue to join the Ceremony. Led by Mr. WONG Po Kee, MH, Chef de Mission, around 30 members of the Hong Kong, China Delegation arrived the Obelisk with all participated countries and regions. Fencer Ms. HSIEH Kaylin Sin Yan, flag bearer of Hong Kong, China, marched-in in the following session with the Bauhinia Flag showing the energetic characteristics of our city.

 

This is the first Opening Ceremony in Modern Olympic history open to the general public held in the city centre and not in a stadium. The venue of the Opening Ceremony – Obelisk is a historic monument built in 1936, which is considered an icon of the City of Buenos Aires. Buenos Aires demonstrated their uniqueness and passion to the world. After several dancing performances, Dr. Thomas BACH, President of the International Olympic Committee gave his speech on the stage. After that, the Argentine authority announced the official opening of the Youth Olympic Games Buenos Aires 2018.

 

Our athletes will complete in the events of Aquatics – Swimming, Fencing, Rowing, Table Tennis, Triathlon and Sailing – Windsurfing on the next day. Let’s cheer for Team Hong Kong, China!
